shared boat program
We get it—buying a boat is a huge decision, especially if the upfront costs are daunting or you're unsure which one-design fleet suits you and your family best. That's why we're proud of our shared boat program. It's designed to make sailing accessible to everyone, regardless of budget or experience level.
Our program offers a fantastic way to dip your toes into the world of sailing without the hefty commitment. You can enjoy the thrill of being out on the water, learn the ropes, and decide what works best for you. Plus, you'll be part of a supportive community of fellow sailors who are always ready to share tips and stories. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or a complete newbie, our shared boat program is your gateway to endless adventures on the water.
HOW IT WORKS
STEP 1
SUBSCRIBE TO A BOAT
In the member portal, subscribe to the shared boat of choice.
Did you know? The FS, ILCA, and Albacore Shared Boat Programs are included in a Beginner Adult Learn to Sail Class?
STEP 2
GET CHECKED OUT
After subscribing, you will attend a check out that will make sure you can rig the boat, capsize the boat (except Flying Scot), and confirm that you are capable of sailing the boat in a safe manner.
Checkouts are scheduled every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, with ability to schedule another time if required.
STEP 3
GO SAILING
This step is easy and fun! Every time you use the boat, you'll check it out via the member portal. Report any damages or accidents to the Shared Boat Coordinator, and become an active member of WRSC.
THE BOATS, COSTS, AND EXPECTATIONS
As a club, we own 7 Albacores, 4 Flying Scots, and 4 Lasers (with all rigs available). You can buy into as many fleets as you want for varying fees. Participation in this program does require that you are a member of WRSC for insurance reasons, but the program fees are very affordable just like becoming a member!
-
ILCA (Laser) for $175/year
-
Albacore for $199/year
-
Flying Scot for $250/year.
REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS
All participants are required to undergo an orientation to their boat type, participating in an Adult Learn to Sail session meets this requirement. It is also expected that all boat users pitch in through volunteer work sessions to maintain the boats in the program. All members are required to complete 3 days of service as well (maintenance days count towards this!).
HOW TO SIGN UP
All participants are required to be members of WRSC. Members can subscribe to a boat within their member portal. You must have an active WRSC Members-Access account to access the link.
