Father Time
A brief description of your event that will entice people to come to it!
The Father Time Lecture is a description of search for a method of determining accurately a ship's position at sea. The Longitude Act of 1714 followed the disaster of 1707 when 4 British wooden battleships were lost in home waters during a transit from Lisbon to London in heavy weather. The four ships and 2,000 men went to the bottom near the Skilly Reef, south of Penzance. John Harrison of Humberside perfected a wooden clock, and after 50 years finally collected the award, but only with royal assistance. The lecture will take 1/2 hourr with many fragile items to exhibit. In preparation please read: Sea Clocks by Louise Borden and Longitude by Dava Sobel.
Hope to see you-all. Bob Emmet
